Disney's live-action remake of Tangled to star Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider

Walt Disney Pictures has officially locked its cast members to play the live-action versions of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from their hit 2010 animated film Tangled.

Australian actor Teagan Croft (Titans, True Spirit) and Milo Manheim, known for Disney Channel's Zombies franchise will be essaying the respective roles in the upcoming film from The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Thor: Love and Thunder, I Know What You Did Last Summer) has written the script for the screen.

Tangled tells the story of Rapunzel, a princess with long hair that has magical powers to heal people. She is kept away from the public's eye and locked in a high tower by Mother Gothel. One day, she secretly escapes with the help of Flynn Rider and goes on an adventure exploring the world she has never seen. The film, directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, was critically and highly commercially acclaimed upon release, earning over $591 million worldwide. Its success spawned a franchise, including a short film, Tangled Ever After (2012), a video game, a stage musical, and a television series which premiered in 2017.

Kristin Burr, known for Freakier Friday and Cruella is backing the film while Lucy Kitada serves as an executive producer. A release date is yet to be announced by the makers.

The live-action Tangled film has been in development since December 2024, with many names attached to it since then. It is the latest in the long list of the studio's live-action adaptations which include The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan, Dumbo, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and Lilo & Stitch. Up next, the Moana live-action movie is gearing up for release on July 10.
