Earlier, we reported about the passing of actor Catherine O’Hara at her residence in Los Angeles. At the time, O’Hara's family and the authorities concerned did not reveal a specific reason for her death. She was taken to a hospital after paramedics were requested to come to her residence in late January following an illness. At the time, CAA, O’Hara's agency cited a “brief illness" as the reason for the actor's death. Now, it has been disclosed as part of the actor's death certificate. According to a TMZ report, she died due to a case of pulmonary embolism, stemming from rectal cancer.

Hollywood continues to mourn the actor's untimely demise. Her career, which spanned over five decades, started with a sketch show in Canada titled Second City Television, which earned her the first-ever Emmy Award in her career for her work as a writer on the show. She shot to fame with a role in director Tim Burton's 1988 film Beetlejuice, where she played Winona Ryder’s onscreen mother. Later, she attained worldwide recognition with a role as a mother to a young boy in director Chris Columbus's Home Alone. She would later reprise her roles in Beetlejuice and Home Alone in the sequels to the films.

Macaulay Culkin, who played the boy in Home Alone, maintained a close relationship with Catherine O’Hara even years after their collaboration on the Christmas comedy. Notably, O’Hara paid tribute to Culkin at his Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2023.

Following her passing, an emotional Culkin took to Instagram and wrote, “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later."

O'Hara came back together with Burton for a voice role as Sally in their animation film The Nightmare Before Christmas and for multiple voice roles in Frankenweenie. Subsequently, she had a resurgence in the twilight of her career with a role in the Netflix sit com Schitt’s Creek, which earned her an Emmy award in the year 2020 and two more nominations.
