Audiences around the world are eagerly waiting for the release of Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Homer's poem Odyssey, featuring a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon and Tom Holland, among others. Meanwhile, the legendary filmmaker's brother Jonathan Nolan recently spoke about his experience watching The Odyssey.
Speaking to CinemaBlend, Jonathan Nolan described it as a spectacular piece of cinema. "It’s tremendous. It’s an incredible achievement. … I was fascinated by The Iliad and The Odyssey when I was younger, and I had some fun conversations with Chris about where he’s taking it. It’s a spectacular film," the filmmaker said. Jonathan's comments come amid his promotions for the upcoming season of his series Fallout, streaming on Prime Video. It is understandable why he would talk about the Christopher Nolan directorial, given the humongous sense of anticipation around it.
The excitement went up further when Holland, who portrays Odysseus' (Damon) son Telemachus in the film adaptation of Homer's epic, spoke about it. Speaking to reporters recently, Holland said that the screenplay by Christopher Nolan for The Odyssey is the best he has read in his career so far.
Jonathan's comments also come amid criticism for his brother after media mogul Elon Musk called him out for casting Lupita Nyong'o in the role of Helen of Troy. Responding to a user, who criticised Nolan's casting of Nyong'o for a character whose beauty contributed to men starting "a war over her," Musk said that the decision signifies Nolan's loss of "integrity".
Nolan's film is slated for a July 17 release in theatres through Universal Pictures. It holds the distinction of being the first feature film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras. The film brings Nolan back together distributor Universal Pictures after their collaboration on the Best Picture Oscar winner Oppenheimer.
