Writer-director Adam Sigal of Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose fame is attached to Parish, starring Nicolas Cage in the lead role, reports Deadline. In the film, Cage is set to portray the titular role, one of the few people on Earth to have survived a nuclear disaster who navigates vicious cannibals.
Set three decades after the nuclear apocalypse, the film follows the protagonist who has long been staying alive amidst cannibals by using his trained dogs and adhering to a golden rule: never allow anybody to come through to his sanctuary. However, as a woman with an infant comes outside his property, the protagonist must pick between survival and compassion. His choice breaches his longstanding place of refuge and puts him closer to cannibals who close in on his property off the wasteland.
Parish is expected to go on floors in Minnesota this October. Joel Shapiro is tapped to produce it under the MagiCity Studios banner alongside Steven Tyler Sahlein. Concourse Media of Matthew Shreder is set to serve as an executive producer and finance the project along with Archetype Media Finance, its sibling company.
The film will have cinematography by David Tattersall, known for his work in the Star Wars franchise, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, The Green Mile, and Nicolas Cage films such as Next and Con Air.
Speaking about the project, producer Joel Shapiro shared, "Adam has developed a savage, incredibly visceral, and cinematic world, but what attracted us to it is the element of humanity underneath the story. Nicolas Cage is ideal for this role as he brings a sense of emotional intensity and unpredictability."
Cage was last seen in the titular role of Prime Video's Spider-Noir. His upcoming projects also include Madden, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Lords of War, The Prince, Fortitude, and Best Pancakes in the County.
