According to a Deadline report, the film has earned more than 200 million from theatres worldwide. It now holds the distinction of being a music biopic with the highest-grossing opening weekend, surpassing the collection of the previous record holder Straight Outta Compton.

In India alone, the film has earned around 14.19 crore from theatres so far, according to data from the industry tracker Sacnilk. It opened in theatres in India with a collection of 3.70 crore, which jumped to 5.10 crore on Saturday. So far this Sunday, it has grossed 1.35 crore from theatres in India.

The opening weekend collection of Michael in India exceeds that of even a critically acclaimed film such as Project Hail Mary. Remember, the Ryan Gosling starrer, based on Andy Weir's novel of the same name, had a slightly delayed release in India.

The film follows the legendary singer, songwriter, philanthropist, and dancer from his humble beginnings with the band Jackson 5 to the early parts of his career, where he made solo performances. The high opening for the film at the box office signifies the cultural impact of the man, known fondly as 'The King of Pop'.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film also stars Nia Long, Juliano Valdi, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, and Laura Harrier, among others.
