Sacha Baron Cohen's worst nightmare comes true when he wakes up in a parallel female-dominated world in the trailer for Ladies First. The Netflix comedy also stars Rosamund Pike in the lead role.
Inspired by Eléonore Pourriat’s Je Ne Suis Pas Un Homme Facile, the story centres on a notorious womaniser who receives a harsh lesson when he finds himself in an alternate reality dominated by women. Matters take an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with a fiery female counterpart.
The trailer shows Sacha Baron Cohen as the misogynist who hits himself against a pole by accident and wakes up in an alternative reality, where even the Pope is a woman. His office is taken over by Rosamund Pike's character, and he struggles to adapt in a world that is discriminative of men.
Richard E Grant, Emily Mortimer, Charles Dance, Fiona Shaw, Tom Davis, Kathryn Hunter and Weruche Opia round out the extended cast of Ladies First. The original film is translated as I Am Not an Easy Man in English and stars Vincent Elbaz and Marie-Sophie Ferdane in lead roles. It was released on Netflix in 2018.
Ladies First is directed by Thea Sharrock (Me Before You, The Beautiful Game) with a screenplay penned by Katie Silberman (Set It Up, Booksmart), Cinco Paul (Schmigadoon!, Despicable Me), and Natalie Krinsky (The Broken Hearts Gallery).
The project is produced by Liza Chasin through her 3dot Productions banner, along with Eleonore Dailly and Edouard de Lachomette. This film is part of Chasin’s ongoing collaboration with Netflix, where she has previously produced Lonely Planet starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth and has the upcoming The Life List with Sofia Carson.
The film is all set to premiere on Netflix on May 22.
