The Spaceballs sequel has been given a new title. The much-anticipated film from Amazon MGM Studios, which is slated for release next year, has been named Spaceballs: The New One. The announcement was shared during the Amazon MGM’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

As reported earlier, Mel Brooks has returned to produce and star in the new film which serves as the follow-up to the 1987 film. It also stars Josh Gad, Anthony Carrigan, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Keke Palmer, and Lewis Pullman.

The upcoming film also reunites original cast members Rick Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet, George Wyner as Colonel Sandurz, Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa, Bill Pullman as Lone Starr and Brooks as the Yoda-esque being Yogurt.

The trailer, which was shown to the audience, parodied critically-acclaimed sci-fi and fantasy films like Star Wars, Avatar and Harry Potter, among others. Plot details are currently kept under wraps.

Josh Greenbaum is serving as the director of the sequel of the 1987 film. He directs the film from a script by Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Greenbaum is also producing the film along with Ron Howard, Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Kevin Salter. Samil and Hernandez will serve as an executive producer along with Adam Merims. Imagine Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios are backing the film.
