Director Steven Spielberg is known for many films, one of which is the widely celebrated shark thriller Jaws. The film hit theatres way back in December 1975 and has set a trend for cinema marketing and treatment. Earlier this Friday, PVR Inox announced that a 4K restored version of the Spielberg film will release again through it.
The film will be available for a limited period on PVR Inox screens from April 17 onwards. "This special screening offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience the film’s masterful tension and iconic sound design with renewed visual and sonic depth, exactly as the director originally envisioned," the exhibitor wrote in a press release.
The Jaws rerelease comes as part of PVR Inox's so-called 'Auteurs Curation' initiative, which celebrates "legendary filmmakers who have shaped the language of cinema," according to the press note.
The note further added, "Alongside titles like Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D, the return of Jaws reflects the company’s commitment to transforming cinematic milestones into meaningful cultural moments for a new generation of moviegoers."
For the unversed, Spielberg's film follows the hunt for a killer shark by a police chief (Roy Scheider) alongside a ship captain (Robert Shaw). The film is most memorable for its 'show less, scare more' approach. Spielberg's shark prop for the film failed to work, forcing him to come up with an alternative way to shoot the film without showing the creature much, which worked wonders for it from a storytelling perspective.
One of its most memorable moments comes when the Roy Scheider character sees the shark pop out of the ocean, takes a few steps back into the boat and tells the captain, "You're gonna need a bigger boat". It is worth noting that the iconic line was not part of the film's screenplay but was improved by Scheider himself during production.
