History was made at the 77th Emmy Awards this year in Los Angeles as Owen Cooper became the youngest male actor to win the top award for his moving performance as a young teenage boy accused of murder in Stephen Graham's Netflix series Adolescence. The series took home whopping eight Emmys for Stephen Graham in Lead Actor and Writing (alongside Jack Thorne), Owen Cooper for Outstanding Supporting Actor, Erin Doherty for Supporting Actress, and Philip Barantini for Directing. It also secured wins in overall Directing and Writing categories.

Apple TV+’s The Studio has set a new record for the most Emmy wins by a new comedy series, winning 13 awards including Best Comedy Series, Best Guest Actor, Best Lead Actor, Best Directing, Best Casting, and Best Writing. Seth Rogen took home three Emmys for writing, directing and starring in the series. Apple TV+'s Severance season 2 earned two Emmys for lead actress for Britt Lower and supporting actor for Trammell Tillman, who became the first Black man to ever take the category. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder of Hacks won prizes for lead and supporting actress in a comedy, respectively.

HBO Max’s medical drama The Pitt took home the top award, with Noah Wylie winning for Lead Actor (for the first time) and Katherine LaNasa for Supporting Actress. The Penguin which already had eight wins from the Creative Arts Emmys, scored a prize for lead actress in a limited series, which went to star Cristin Miloti. A surprise winner came from Somebody Somewhere as Jeff Hiller won the Emmy for Outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.
