Supermodel Gigi Hadid recently revealed that she once auditioned to play Rapunzel in Disney’s live-action version of Tangled—a project that has since been put on hold.

In her Vogue cover story with Kendall Jenner, Hadid reflected on the experience. “What do we do in this job anymore that scares us?” she asked Jenner, explaining why she pushed herself to go for the role. Even though she didn’t land the part, Hadid admitted, “I was really proud of my scene.”

The fashion star even took vocal lessons during fashion month to prepare. Still, she confessed she expected Disney to pick “a real singer” for the role. She also promised Jenner that she’d eventually show her the audition tape.

Hadid wasn’t the only familiar name to try out for the project. My Oxford Year actor Corey Mylchreest, who read for the part of Flynn Rider, joked to Seventeen about how poorly he felt his attempt went. “We don’t have the footage anymore. I deleted it, and then I burnt it, and then I burnt the phone that I filmed on. And then I burnt the room that I did it in. And then I burnt myself,” he quipped, adding that producers ultimately wanted someone with stronger singing abilities.

The live-action remake, based on the 2010 animated hit and the Brothers Grimm classic, had been in development with Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) attached to direct and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson set to write the script. But following the lacklustre reception of Disney’s Snow White adaptation and the controversies surrounding it, insiders confirmed that Tangled has been paused indefinitely.

For now, Disney fans can look forward to another fairy-tale revival: the live-action Moana, slated to hit theatres on July 10, 2026.
