The Mitchells vs the Machines 2 in development at Sony and Netflix

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are developing a sequel to the 2021 film, The Mitchell vs. the Machines. The first film featured the voices of Olivia Colman, Maya Rudolph, John Legend, and Conan O'Brien, among others.

JP Sanz and Guillermo Martinez are directing The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2, with the film being Martinez's directorial debut. They are directing the film from a script by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are returning to produce the film under their Lord Miller banner. Kurt Albrecht is also producing the film. Rianda and Aditya Sood are serving as executive producers. The film is set to begin production in 2026.

Lord and Miller are also gearing up for the release of the third entrant in the Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Featuring the return of fan favourite characters like Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Peter B Parker, Miguel O'Hara, and others, the film is set to release in 2027.

The Mitchell vs. the Machines follows the story of the titular family who fights the rise of robots controlled by an AI, PAL (Olivia Colman).
