Hollywood heavyweights George Clooney and Annette Bening are joining forces for In Love, a deeply emotional drama directed by Paul Weitz and based on Amy Bloom’s acclaimed memoir In Love: A Memoir of Love and Loss.

The upcoming film, backed and fully financed by Anton, the studio behind Memoir of a Snail and the upcoming Victorian Psycho, will explore Bloom’s real-life journey as she comes to terms with her husband’s battle with Alzheimer’s and their joint decision to travel to Switzerland to end his suffering. The memoir was celebrated as a moving testament to love, courage, and loss, earning the title of TIME Magazine’s Best Nonfiction Book of the Year and a spot among its 100 must-read books.

Weitz, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker known for About a Boy, Fatherhood (2021), and Moving On (2022), co-wrote the screenplay alongside Bloom herself.

The project is being developed and produced by Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev under their Sight Unseen banner, the same team behind the upcoming Brendan Fraser starrer Rental Family. Joining them as producers are Andrew Miano and Weitz through Depth of Field, while Clooney will also produce alongside Grant Heslov via Smokehouse Pictures. Sébastien Raybaud will produce on behalf of Anton.

Both Clooney and Bening are coming off strong career turns. Clooney is currently generating awards buzz for his role in Jay Kelly, Noah Baumbach’s Netflix-bound comedy-drama that premiered at the Venice Film Festival and releases on December 5. Meanwhile, Bening will next star opposite Jessie Buckley in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Bride, a bold reimagining of the Bride of Frankenstein myth, set for release on March 6, 2026, through Warner Bros.
