Toby Wallace has signed on to star in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, the streamer’s high-profile series based on Ubisoft’s globally successful video game franchise. The project was ordered to series earlier this year, though specifics about Wallace’s character are being tightly guarded for now.

The show promises to dig deep into the long-running conflict at the heart of the games. According to the official description, the story focuses on a clandestine war waged between two powerful factions — one seeking to control humanity’s path through manipulation, and the other fighting to defend free will. The Assassin’s Creed narrative unfolds across key moments in world history as its characters navigate ideological battles that could determine the course of human destiny.

For long-time fans, the Assassin’s Creed series will revisit familiar lore: the age-old struggle between the Assassins and the Templars, and the use of advanced technology that allows individuals to tap into ancestral memories to locate ancient, highly coveted artefacts known as Pieces of Eden.

Behind the scenes, Roberto Patino and David Wiener are steering the adaptation as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. Ubisoft Film & Television’s Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Genevieve Jones also serve as executive producers, alongside Matt O’Toole.

Toby Wallace’s casting adds momentum to the project. The actor has gained acclaim for films including Babyteeth, The Bikeriders, Finestkind, and The Royal Hotel. On television, he is widely recognised for leading FX’s limited series Pistol, which chronicled the rise of the Sex Pistols. His credits also include The Society and Romper Stomper, and he is set to appear in the upcoming third and final season of HBO’s Euphoria.
