Actor Macaulay Culkin is ready with a story idea for a new sequel the Home Alone films in which he starred in. Along with other franchise films which are making a return with a nostalgic bang to theatres, Culkin has stirred hope for fans of the beloved film for a new addition to the pack.

During a recent stop on his A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin tour, he hinted at returning for a new Home Alone film and pitched a new idea for a story that he would be interested in doing.

Elaborating on the idea, he said, "I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in... and he’s the one setting traps for me."

The actor said “the house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship” and his character has to “get let back into son’s heart’ kind of deal. That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have. I’m not completely allergic to it, the right thing."

Home Alone went on to become one of the best Christmas films of all time, grossing $476.7 million worldwide. It made Culkin one of the biggest child stars in Hollywood at the time, and the film was the highest-grossing live-action comedy for two decades. The sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) was also critically acclaimed and grossed over $359 million worldwide. Both these films starred Culkin the lead. After these two films, Home Alone 3 (1997) and 4 went on to feature a completely new cast.

Unlike Home Alone 3, which introduced a completely new storyline and cast, the fourth film (2002) revisits many of the original characters from the first two instalments — including Kevin McCallister — though all roles are portrayed by new actors. Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (2012) was a standalone sequel to the fourth film.

A sixth installment in the series, Home Sweet Home Alone, premiered on Disney+ on November 12, 2021. The film also features Devin Ratray returning as Buzz McCallister, a role he originally played in the first two movies.
