New Star Trek film in development from Dungeons and Dragons makers

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are on board to develop a new Star Trek film for Paramount

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are all set to boldy develop a new Star Trek film. The pair, who previously wrote and directed Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will also pen and helm the upcoming Star Trek film, reported Deadline.

Daley and Goldstein have been collaborating as writers and directors on various projects. They have written for films like Horrible Bosses (2011), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013), and Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).

Films written and directed by the pair include the comedy Game Night (2018), which follows a pair trying to uncover the mystery behind a game night with their friends, gone wrong. More recently, their directorial Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves released in 2023, to positive review from critics.

The upcoming project is a reboot of the Star Trek films. The films, based on the characters created by Gene Roddenberry, was rebooted in 2009 with Star Trek (2009). Directed by JJ Abrams, the film went on to have two sequels, Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), directed by Abrams, and Star Trek: Beyond (2016), directed by Justin Lin.

The latest film in the series is Star Trek: Section 31, which was released in January. The film stars Michelle Yeoh in the lead and is a spinoff to the series, Star Trek: Discovery. Star Trek: Section 31 is currently streaming on Prime Video, with Star Trek: Discovery streaming on JioHotstar.
