After announcing the third installment of the Orphan franchise had been greenlit late last year, the makers announced that the film's production had officially commenced through a social media post.
William Brent Bell, who helmed the second film, Orphan: First Kill, is returning as the director for the third installment, with a script from David Coggeshall. The film also marks the return of Isabelle Furhman as Esther Coleman, while the rest of the cast is yet to be announced.
The first film, Orphan (2009), directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script by David Leslie Johnson, revolved around a couple who adopt a nine-year-old, unaware that she is not who she appears to be, both physically and psychologically. The 2022 film, a prequel, follows a younger Esther, who charts a journey to America pretending to be the missing daughter of a wealthy family, after escaping from an Estonian psychiatric facility. The third film is said to be a sequel to the 2009 film.
Barring cinematographer Maxime Alexander, the rest of the technical crew is yet to be announced.
Despite the second installment receiving polarised reviews, the psychological slasher franchise is commercially successful, with combined box office collection of over $120 million globally.
