Hollywood actor Emma Stone utilised social media to immerse herself in the mindset of her role in Ari Aster's Western film, Eddington. She needed to understand conspiracy theories extensively, and these began influencing her social media algorithms.

Stone portrays Louise, the spouse of Joaquin Phoenix's sheriff character, who becomes entangled in a web of conspiracy after encountering Austin Butler's alluring guru, according to Variety.

During a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival for Eddington, Stone discussed how her personal approach evolved while preparing for the role. “The only additional thing that scared me a little bit in the algorithm system was looking into some of the things that are in this film that haven’t been in my algorithm, unfortunately added them to my algorithm”, she said. “Because once you start Googling it, you start seeing more and more things. So it’s a real rabbit hole, very quickly. Unfortunately, I’m still getting fed some crazy shit”.

Eddington, which premiered at Cannes last night and received a five-minute standing ovation, features Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler. The A24 movie, unafraid to critique the MAGA movement, takes place during the peak of the COVID pandemic in May 2020, depicting a confrontation between a local sheriff and mayor that ignites tensions, turning neighbors against each other in Eddington, New Mexico.

Pascal humorously recalled that during the Covid-19 lockdown, the only thing he could watch to shield himself from the algorithm was the filmography of Twin Peaks actor Lara Flynn Boyle.

Eddington is set to arrive in cinemas on July 18.
