Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone’s upcoming film Bugonia is arriving earlier than expected. Originally slated for a November 7 release, the sci-fi dark comedy will now premiere in select theatres on October 24, with a wider expansion set for October 31. Focus Features will release the film in the US and Canada, while Universal Pictures will handle its international rollout.
Bugonia marks another entry in the ongoing creative partnership between Lanthimos and Stone, who previously collaborated on Poor Things, The Favourite, and Kinds of Kindness. The film is a remake of the cult South Korean film Save the Green Planet and centres on two conspiracy theorists who abduct a powerful corporate CEO, believing she’s an alien plotting to destroy humanity.
Jesse Plemons reunites with Lanthimos and Stone after Kinds of Kindness and leads the cast alongside Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone.
The screenplay is penned by Succession and The Menu writer Will Tracy. Stone and Lanthimos are also producing the film through their respective banners, Fruit Tree and Pith. The project is a joint effort by Element Pictures' Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe, Square Peg’s Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen, and CJ ENM’s Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.
