Actor Jasmine Cephas Jones, known for films like Origin, Mistress America and Blindspotting has boarded HBO's upcoming series Lanterns which is based on the DC comic Green Lantern in a guest role.
The ensemble cast of the series already includes Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen.
Cephas Jones stars as Young Bernadette, Stewart's mother. she is described as a resilient person who is "forever the family fixer" and thinks about the big picture while pushing herself and her family to excel.
HBO's Lanterns is set to be one of the first live-action TV shows in DC's new slate of films and television series. Announced by James Gunn in 2023, it is described as a True Detective-like show that involves two Lanterns, Hal Jordan (Chandler) and John Stewart (Pierre), investigating a terrifying secret that impacts the larger narrative of the DC Universe. HBO produces the series in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios
Chris Mundy serves as the showrunner and a co-writer for the series. The first season has an eight-episode order, with James Hawes directing two of them. Mundy, Gunn, and Hawes serveas executive producers on the series with DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, Damon Lindelof, who created HBO's Watchmen, and DC Comics writer Tom King.
