Liz Merriwether is set to write a series based on Black Widow (1987) after Hulu greenlit the series, reports Variety. She is to serve as an executive producer along with Emmy Rossum, who is known for her role as Fiona Gallagher in Shameless.
The official synopsis for the series is, “An FBI agent uses the secrets from a female serial killer’s past to try and find her.” While Emmy Rossum has not been confirmed as the lead, she would be playing the FBI agent if confirmed.
The 1987 film starred Debra Winger as a Justice Department agent and Theresa Russell as the titular black widow who marries and murders for money. The film was directed by Bob Rafelson, with Ronald Bass writing.
Along with Merriwether and Rossum, Bass also serves as an executive producer. Rossum will serve as an executive producer with Sara Moskowitz under her Composition 8 banner. 20th Television will produce the series along with Searchlight TV.
