The Naked Gun reboot all set to release in theatres soon. Headlined by Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, the film is aimed at reviving the fan-favourite franchise with a new cast, modern jokes, while giving a hat-tip to the original legacy. In the reboot, Liam stars as Lt Frank Deblin Jr, the bumbling son of the original detective and is joined by Pamela Anderson as Beth Davenport, the femme fatale and a sharp-tongued partner of Deblin.
Pamela's character pays homage to the role of Priscilla Presley from the original film. She explains that her character was something she developed with care and thoughtfulness. "I work a lot on the character, before I even get to set. So I bring a lot with me, and then just be flexible enough to work with the director on the character. Whether it’s a drama or a high comedy, I still put the work in,” she said in a statement and noted that she and director Akiva Schaffer conversed in depth about Beth’s backstory, which came in strong aid to fine tune her performance.
Of Akiva Schaffer’s directing style, she says, “He’s a great director. Akiva is very scientific with the jokes. But I also really wanted to bring honesty and authenticity to the character, and vulnerability. So it was a collaboration. But I see some very sincere and tender moments, which I don’t think you’d expect in a film like this.”
Schaffer is directing the film from a screenplay by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who reunite with the former after Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, which won Outstanding Television Movie at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards. The film also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, and Danny Huston in key roles.
Erica Huggins and Seth MacFarlane are producing the film, based on David Zucker, Jerry Zucker, and Jim Abrahams' original Naked Gun franchise and their Police Squad! TV series. The franchise began in 1988 with The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, starring Nielsen, Priscilla Presley and George Kennedy, and it has two sequels.
