Actor Pamela Anderson was at the peak of her career, working on several photo shoots and memorable role as CJ Parker in the hit show Baywatch in the '90s, so much that she was called the 'sex symbol'. But Anderson doesn't want to be called that anymore. The 58-year-old actor has admitted to not enjoying the attention that came as a result of the show and want to be described as a 'sex symbol'.
In an interview on the How to Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast, Anderson admitted to feeling scared at times with the overwhelming attention. "I don’t like being a sex symbol. I mean, I think it’s not very sexy. I think we all aspire to be sexy in our relationships, but sexy for the world is, I don’t know. It brought a lot of attention I didn’t like, but I hate to say that because I’m not complaining, but I do feel that is a slippery slope where you are presenting yourself to the world like this and you get this attention back. That can be even scary at times."
The Last Showgirl actor has now opted out of makeup and the decision to embrace her bare skin had gone viral. But for Anderson, the choice she took was after the death of her makeup artist Alexis Vogel. "I love to wear makeup too sometimes," she said to People. "It has a time and a place. I just feel in my personal life, it just didn't really make sense," she added.
While she noted that it can be intimidating to not be wearing makeup at her age and being in an industry that often holds beauty in high regard, she said it was important for her in her "to be more natural." "I want to challenge myself and become and to be present myself in different ways because women are many things. We're not just the wild animal between the sheets," she said.
Pamela Anderson first gained attention as a Playboy model, becoming one of the magazine’s most recognizable cover stars. Anderson's career spans acting, activism, and reality television, with her outspoken work on animal rights and environmental issues gaining widespread attention. She is currently awaiting the release of The Naked Gun, alongside Liam Neeson. The film hits theatres on August 1.
