Malcolm-Jamal Warner, The Cosby Show star, dies in accidental drowning incident

Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the who is known for his role as Theodore “Theo” Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has accidentally drowned to his death. Reportedly, Warner was on vacation with his family in Costa Rica as he was trapped in a high water current while swimming, leading to asphyxia. The Costa Rica government’s law enforcement identified Warner’s body adjacent to the Limon-based beach Cocles on Sunday.

Warner was a prominent figure in 1980s television. His portrayal of Theo, Cliff Huxtable’s (Bill Cosby) only son, on the NBC series, earned him an Emmy nomination. A character who navigates life’s challenges, Theo was among the fan favourites from the show throughout its eight-season run.

After The Cosby Show, Warner starred in sitcoms such as Malcolm and Eddie as well as Reed Between the Lines. He also appeared in dramas such as Sons of Anarchy and, more recently, The Resident.

The New Jersey born man showed a keen interest to become an actor early in his life, which led him to a New York City arts school. He secured the role of Theo on the final day of a nationwide search conducted by NBC; Cosby personally selected him for the part.

Beyond acting, Warner directed music videos for artists such as New Edition and helmed episodes of popular shows, including The Cosby Show as well as Kenan and Kel. Warner's survivors include his spouse and daughter.
