After three successful films, the museum has reopened its doors to offer a new film with new characters. A reboot of Night at the Museum is in the works at 20th Century Studios and 21 Laps Entertainment. Tripper Clancy, known for Stuber and Die Hart series, is helming the upcoming film whose plot details are currently under wraps.

The original three films, released between 2006 and 2014, were box office hits and starred Ben Stiller in a role of Larry Daley, a divorced father who applies for a job as a night watchman at New York City's American Museum of Natural History and subsequently discovers that the exhibits come to life at night. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, the original film's sequel was released in 2009 and a third part Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb was released in 2014. Further, an animated sequel, Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again was released directly on Disney+ in 2022.

The story for Night at the Museum was adapted from the 1993 children’s book by Milan Trenc.

The cast and a tentative release date for the new film have not been announced. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are backing the upcoming yet-to-be-titled film for 21 Laps.

Clancy has also helmed I Am Not Okay With This series for Netflix and the second instalment to the Die Hart series Die Hart 2: Die Harter.
