John Leguizamo has joined the star-studded cast of Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic film, The Odyssey. He will share the screen with Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, and Benny Safdie.

Universal Pictures announced last year that The Odyssey "is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time."

Homer's ancient Greek poem, The Odyssey, is a cornerstone of literature, recounting the arduous journey home of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, after the Trojan War.

The film is slated for a July 17, 2026, release in theatres. Nolan will direct the film from his own screenplay, besides producing it alongside Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner.

Part of the filming will take place in Sicily, a region central to Odysseus's legendary travels. Principal photography is set to start later this year on Favignana, often called the "Goat Island," considered the inspiration behind Homer's depiction of Odysseus's landing.

Leguizamo, a comedian and actor with a career spanning four decades, is known for his roles in films such as To Wong Foo, Summer of Sam, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge, the Ice Age franchise, The Menu, and The Pest.
