Production on Prime Video’s hit post-apocalyptic drama series Fallout has been temporarily halted due to dangerous weather conditions in Southern California. Originally set to resume filming on Wednesday following a holiday break, the production team has opted to delay the restart until Friday as a precautionary measure against powerful winds and ongoing wildfires in the region.
The series, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Kilter Films, shifted its filming location from New York to California for its second season after securing a $25 million tax credit. The new filming hub in Santa Clarita—one of the windiest areas in Los Angeles County—was impacted by a quarter-acre brush fire on Tuesday afternoon, further complicating plans to return to production.
Fallout is not the only series filming in Santa Clarita, with shows like NCIS also using the area for production. However, at this time, no other series have reported disruptions due to the extreme weather.
Based on the iconic video game series from Bethesda Game Studios, Fallout explores life 200 years after a devastating apocalypse. The narrative follows the inhabitants of luxury fallout shelters as they are forced to leave their safe confines and confront a bizarre, violent, and irradiated world left behind by their ancestors.
Season 2 will see the return of stars Ella Purnell as Lucy, Aaron Moten as Maximus, Walton Goggins as the Ghoul, and Kyle MacLachlan, among others. The ensemble cast also includes Moisés Arias, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones.
In November, Macaulay Culkin joined the series in a recurring role for Season 2, adding further star power to the already acclaimed cast.
Executive producers for Fallout include Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and Graham Wagner. Athena Wickham of Kilter Films, James Altman for Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios also serve as executive producers.
The series’ first season was met with widespread praise for its dark humour, rich storytelling, and faithful adaptation of the beloved game franchise. Season 2’s move to California was heralded as a major win for the state’s film industry, with the tax credit helping solidify the show’s future in the region.
