Jon Bernthal is set to headline a Marvel Studios Special Presentation as Frank Castle/The Punisher. The Punisher special is set to be written by Bernthal himself and Reinaldo Marcus Green, with the latter tapped to direct. Bernthal reunites with Green after HBO's limited series, We Own This City. Green is known for his biographical films such as King Richard, Bob Marley: One Love, and Joe Bell.

The Head of Marvel Television, Brad Winderbaum, told Entertainment Weekly that the Punisher special was conceptualised while filming season one of Daredevil: Born Again. He said, "It's like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story; it's so exciting."

Previous Marvel Studios Special Presentations are Werewolf By Night (2022) and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022).

Bernthal reprises his role from Daredevil: Born Again in the Punisher special. The series Daredevil: Born Again sees the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Wilson Bethel, and Ayelet Zurer are also set to star. The series is created by Dario Scardapane, Matt Orman, and Chris Ord, with Scardapane as the showrunner. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead serve as the lead directors for the series.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere on JioHotstar on March 5.
