This Sunday marks Amitabh Bachchan's 84th birthday. The legendary actor has been receiving warm birthday wishes from several members of the film fraternity.
Kamal Hassan shared a film still featuring him with Amitabh and wrote, “He made the baritone iconic, the pause dramatic, and the raised eyebrow a plot twist. Amit Ji can make even a simple “Deviyon aur Sajjano” sound like a blockbuster opening. The man has always been in a league of his own. Happy Birthday, Angry Young Man!”
Kamal has acted with Amitabh Bachchan in the film 1985’s Geraftaar, also featuring Rajinikanth. The two are part of the cast for 2024’s Kalki 2898 AD but their characters do not appear together in it. Further, the term Angry Young Man refers to recurring types of role from Amitabh Bachchan in his films from the 1970s onwards. He portrayed several characters, including some named Vijay, with a great deal of suppressed anger and rage in films, such as 1975’s Deewar, 1978’s Trishul, 1979’s Kaala Patthar, and 1990’s Agneepath. Further “Deviyon aur Sajjano” refers to Amitabh's iconic opening greeting to the audience in his long running quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
On the film front, Amitabh was last seen in 2024’s Vettaiyan, co-starring Rajinikanth. He also served as a narrator for last year’s war film 120 Bahadur, starring Farhan Akhtar in the lead role. Up next, Amitabh is reuniting with Kamal for a sequel to Kalki. Unlike the 2024 film, the sequel is set to have the two actors sharing screen space, marking their first onscreen collaboration after Geraftaar. Recently, the makers of the Kalki sequel shared stills from the set of the film, with Amitabh in character. While the upcoming film will bring the superstar back as Ashwatthama, his character from the first part, Kamal will come back as totalitarian king Supreme Yaskin.
