Sam Nivola, who is making waves with his performance in Season 3 of The White Lotus, has landed the lead role in Bobby Farrelly’s upcoming comedy Driver’s Ed. The film is set to begin production in North Carolina next week, with Nivola joining previously announced co-stars Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.

Written by Thomas Moffett, Driver’s Ed follows a group of high school students who steal their school’s driver’s education car for a road trip. Their mission? Helping a senior (played by Nivola) track down his college freshman girlfriend in hopes of winning her back. While details about the characters played by Nanjiani and Shannon remain under wraps, the film promises a mix of humour and teenage adventure.

AGC Studios is co-producing the film and providing full financing. The producing team includes Jonas Pate, Jennifer Pate, and David Stone, co-founder of TFC Management and TFC Productions. Executive producers attached to the project include AGC’s Stuart Ford and Aghi Koh, Lorelle Lynch, Bobby Farrelly, and Scott Lambert.

Apart from The White Lotus, Nivola recently starred alongside Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber in Netflix’s The Perfect Couple and wrapped production on Phony, a Hulu pilot where he stars opposite Connie Britton. His previous work includes roles in Noah Baumbach’s White Noise and Bradley Cooper’s Oscar-nominated Maestro.
