The film adaptation of Stanislaw Lem's sci-fi novel The Inquest of Pilot Pirx is in the works with the Oscar-nominated Downfall's director Oliver Hirschbiegel and writer-creator of Apple TV's Constellation Peter Harness collaborating on the project.
Joining the both is sci-fi novelist Adrian Tchaikovsky, while the project is produced by Nafta Films and Film and Music Entertainment.
The film is about the story of Commander Pirx, leader of the group of androids and humans in their venture into space. They go through a double Turing test when they attempt to know if they and their crewmates are artificial life. In an unexpected turn, their mission is hampered by an unknown saboteur.
Apart from the critical and commercial acclaim Downfall garnered, Hirschbiegel is also known for his films Das Experiment, several episodes of Constellation and BAFTA nominated 13 Minutes and Five Minutes in Heaven, starring Liam Neeson.
