Earlier, we reported about Javier Bardem starring in a series adaptation of the thriller Cape Fear for Apple TV+, with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg serving as producers. The latest development concerning the project from writer-showrunner Nick Antosca is that Amy Adams has joined Bardem in a lead role. Bardem is playing Max Cady, a serial killer with a score to settle with his former defence attorney. There are two Cape Fear films, one released in 1962 and the other in 1991, both based on John D MacDonald's novel The Executioners.

In the 1962 film from director J Lee Thompson, Robert Mitchum played Max Cady, whereas in the Scorsese film from 1991, Robert De Niro portrayed the role. Cady stalks his erstwhile attorney Sam Bowden (Gregory Peck in the 1962 film, Nick Nolte in the 1991 film) and Bowden's wife (Peggy Bowden and Jessica Lange) as he is convinced that the legal representative deliberately played a part in getting him convicted and serving a long sentence. Adams is cast as the attorney's wife in the Cape Fear series. Adams will also serve as an executive producer on it.

The actor's upcoming projects include At the Sea, the drama from Pieces of a Woman from filmmaker Kornel Mundruczo, and director Taika Waititi's science-fiction film Klara and the Sun.
