It has been quite the year for Mark Hamill, with roles in Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck and the film adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk. He also plays a voice character, named Flying Dutchman, in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, which is set to release next year in India. The 74-year-old actor, best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Stars Wars franchise, recently talked to Variety about his back-to-back releases after escaping the wildfire in Los Angeles County earlier this year. The actor said that he considered retirement some years ago, but a Mike Flanagan project rekindled his excitement for acting again. He called a meeting with Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy for a role in The Fall of the House of Usher a "turning point" in the recent phase of his career.
"That made me excited about performing again because it was a character part that would’ve been routine in voiceover. In voiceover, they don’t care what you look like, so you’re going to play many roles you’d never get on camera. They cast with their ears, not their eyes," Mark Hamill said.
The actor said that it might not be as active an year for him in 2026, unlike the present one. "I certainly didn’t think I’d be on camera as long as I’ve been," he reflected about his career so far.
