IT: Welcome to Derry, the prequel series to IT (2017) and IT: Chapter 2 (2019), has been confirmed by director Andy Muschietti, to be renewed for two more seasons. Muschietti the director of IT (2017) and IT: Chapter Two (2019), developed the series, which is currently streaming on JioHotstar.
In an interview to CinePop, Muschietti confirmed the news of the series running for two more seasons, and said that the first season was the first of three steps.
The story of IT: Welcome to Derry is based on Stephen King's novel It. The first season of the series follows the centres on a group of kids in Derry, in 1962. The arrival of a family into town coincides with bad things happening in the town, with the haunting of a dark entity.
In an earlier interview, Muschietti revealed that the second season and third season will be set in 1935 and 1908, respectively, set during the previous appearances of the supernatural , IT, which appears only once in 28 years.
IT: Welcome to Derry, stars Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. Bill Skarsgard reprises his role of Pennywise the Clown from the films.
Muschietti developed the series along with Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. Fuchs and Caleb Kane serve as showrunners and executive producers along with Skarsgard.
The first season began streaming on JioHotstar, on October 27, with one episode releasing every week. The final episode was released on December 15.
