As The Summer I Turned Pretty races toward the conclusion of its final season, Prime Video has issued a sharp reminder to viewers: stop targeting the cast online.

“The show isn’t real, but the people playing the characters are,” read a caption from the official TikTok account for the series, posted alongside a video graphic that declared, “The Summer We Started Acting Normal Online.”

The call for civility comes after weeks of increasingly hostile behaviour from fans, including harsh insults and even death threats directed at Gavin Casalegno, who portrays Jeremiah Fisher. His character has long divided audiences as one half of the central love triangle opposite Christopher Briney’s Conrad Fisher, both of whom are vying for the affection of Belly Conklin, played by Lola Tung.

The scrutiny hasn’t stopped at fictional storylines. Casalegno has also drawn fire from some fans over his alleged conservative political views, with critics pointing to social media posts he has liked.

As per a report on Variety, producers felt the need to issue Tuesday’s warning because the discourse had grown increasingly toxic as Season 3’s weekly rollout intensified. With the eighth episode, “Last Kiss”, debuting on Wednesday, only three instalments remain before the series finale.

This isn’t the first time the streamer has had to intervene. Ahead of the third season’s July 16 premiere, the team behind The Summer I Turned Pretty had already cautioned fans about harassing cast members or one another online.
