After significant delay, Blade Runner 2099, headlined by Michelle Yeoh will finally premiere on Prime Video in 2026. The limited series will be a sequel to the 2017 Denis Villeneuve film Blade Runner 2049.

The release was shared by Laura Lancaster, Head of US SVOD TV Development and Series – Co-Productions at Amazon MGM Studios. The report came from an internal memo within the company that announced promotions for two executives, Kara Smith and Tom Lieber.

Although greenlit in September 2022, the series was delayed by a year due to the writers' strike in Hollywood. Filming also moved from Belfast in Ireland to Prague in Czech Republic in 2024. It was earlier scheduled for release this year or by early 2026. The series, currently in post production, also stars Hunter Schafer, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey and Daniel Rigby, with Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Burke and Lombardi among the recurring cast.

Blade Runner 2049, which starred Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, and Jared Leto, was a sequel to the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner. It starred Harrison Ford in the lead role and followed Rick Deckard, a blade runner, who hunts down escaped replicants. Blade Runner is loosely based on the Philip K Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. This new series marks the first time the franchise has been adapted into a live-action TV series.

Silka Luisa will be the showrunner and executive producer along with Ridley Scott, Alcon Entertainment's Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Ben Roberts, Scott Free Productions' David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger, Tom Spezialy, Richard Sharkey, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, and Isa Dick Hackett.
