A Real Pain Trailer: Has trappings of a goofy road film with emotional undercurrents

The film, written and directed by Eisenberg earlier this year, bagged the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival

Production house Searchlight Pictures dropped the trailer video of A Real Pain, starring Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg in lead roles, on Wednesday.

The trailer shows how Benji (Culkin) and David (Eisenberg) play a foil to each other on screen, with one being extroverted and the other a bit reserved. While the scenes showing how both find it hard to tolerate each other evoke laughter, they become emotional when paying respects to their grandmother, who is a Holocaust victim.

The film, written and directed by Eisenberg earlier this year, bagged the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

A teaser of the film, which will release on October 18, was unveiled this June.

Jennifer Grey, Will Sharpe, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes round out the cast of A Real Pain. Ali Herting, Dave McCary, Ewa Puszczynska, Jennifer Semler, Eisenberg, and Emma Stone are the producers of the project.
