The second season of the Prime Video Lord of the Rings series The Rings of Power premiered on August 29th, and its fifth episode dropped on Thursday. The series has continued to receive mixed responses from fans, who mostly feel it is an improvement over season 1 but is still not living up to the expectations.

This gave rise to speculations about the future of the show, which is the most expensive series in history with an estimated budget that potentially runs into a billion dollars.

However, a source has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the makers will stick to the original plan of having five seasons for the series. "...those who watch every episode and [negatively] write about it on social media and make YouTube videos, we’re happy to have you guys, too. It wouldn’t be a journey through Middle-earth without some trolls along the way," remarked JD Payne in a statement.

The show is created by JD Payne and Patrick McKay and is based on JRR Tolkien's works. It is set thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings. The finale for this season will drop on October 3.
