The Diplomat, starring Keri Russell as Katherine "Kate" Wyler, a newly appointed US ambassador to the UK, got its teaser released by Netflix. The series was renewed for a second season in May 2023.

The first season involved Kate Wyler (Russell) as the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She was supposed to go to Afghanistan and will have to diffuse international crises, forge strategic alliances in London, and adjust to her new place in the spotlight — all while trying to survive her marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).

Russell was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards for her role. David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh were also featured in the first season, which had eight episodes.
