A new clip from Luca Guadagnino's Queer, starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, was unveiled at the Venice Film Festival, 2024, on Tuesday. The clip shows Craig entering a bar and drinking a shot of alcohol, after which he sees Starkey. On seeing him, he steps down from his barstool and bows at him, only for the latter to ignore him and speak to another women. Following this, Craig angrily struts out of the bar. 

Based on William S Burroughs' semi-autobiographical novel Queer, the film stars Craig as the author's alter ego. The film revolves around Craig's character Lee, who resides in a community of American college-goers with part-time employment and bar owners who depend on GI Bill benefits. The themes of the book cover drug abuse and sex, with Lee growing an infatuation for Allerton (Starkey), a younger and discharged US Navy serviceman. A drug consumer, Allerton stays indifferent to the sexual advances from Lee but eventually relents to them.

The cast of Queer also includes Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Michael Borremans, David Lowery, and Andra Ursuta. The film marks the acting debut of singer-songwriter Omar Apollo as well. The film is an official selection at the Venice Film Festival this year.

Guadagnino’s Challengers screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes adapted Burroughs' Queer for the silver screen, in association with the filmmaker.
