Earlier, we reported about Glen Powell starring in The Running Man, a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger headliner of the same name. The latest from filmmaker Edgar Wright's remake is that Josh Brolin has joined the film in a villain role, opposite Powell's character. Brolin himself announced the news in a New York Comic-Con panel. Powell plays a version of the same role as Schwarzenegger's from the 1987 original.

The action film is based on a dystopian Stephen King novel, but King published it under his Richard Bachman pseudonym. Set in a dystopic US, it revolves around a wrongly convicted cop getting a chance for liberation through a television game show.

The cast also includes All American star Daniel Ezra and Katy O’Brian of Love Lies Bleeding fame.

Wright is also producing The Running Man with Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. Wright is known for his witty and distinctive filmmaking style, which is especially evident in his titles such as Hot FuzzBaby DriverScott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Shaun of the Dead.

Powell is hot on the heels of a career high with Anyone but YouTwisters, and Hit Man. Powell's upcoming projects also include the revenge thriller Huntington, the John Patton Ford directorial that also stars Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris. Brolin, on the other hand, recently turned down an offer to play Hal Jordan in DC's Lanterns series. Brolin also has Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and Barbarian director Zach Cregger's horror thriller Weapons in the pipeline.
