The famous cartoon Rugrats is getting another big screen treatment, according to a Deadline Hollywood report. Paramount is working on a Rugrats feature film that combines CG and live action. The film will bring back Tommy Pickles as well as his friends Phil and Lil DeVille and Chuckie Finster as animation characters in a real-world setting similar to Sonic the Hedgehog.
Jason Moore, known for Sisters and Pitch Perfect, is directing this feature film from a screenplay by Streeter Seidell and Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day. Rugrats creators Gábor Csupó and Arlene Klasky are producing the film with Karen Rosenfelt.
The children's show, which debuted in 1991 on the channel Nickelodeon, inspired many films, including The Rugrats Movie, Rugrats in Paris, Rugrats Go Wild, The Wild Thornberrys, and All Grown Up!
Moore's recent work is Shotgun Wedding, a Prime Video romantic-comedy film starring Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Lopez. His upcoming projects also include feature adaptations of Emma Straub’s novel This Time Tomorrow and Steven Rowley’s Guncle.
