Slumdog Millionaire's sequel in the offing?

Released in India in 2009, Slumdog Millionaire, starring Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Madhur Mittal, Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan, is based on Vikas Swarup's novel Q & A with Simon Beaufroy's screenplay

Filmmaker Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire (2009) put Indian talents on the map in the global stage with multiple Academy Award wins. Speculations about the film's possible sequel are on the rise, with a Los Angeles-based production company buying the sequel rights of the film.

The newly launched Bridge7 production house, run by producer Swati Shetty and CAA agent Grant Kessman, has acquired the sequel and TV rights to the film. Swati told The Hollywood Reporter that "some stories stay with us long after the credits roll, and Slumdog Millionaire is undoubtedly one of them." Praising the film for its universal content that cuts across cultures, she said Slumdog Millionaire's story acts like a bridge between entertainment and "profound human emotions."

The film tells the story of Jamal Malik, a young man from the slums of Mumbai who becomes a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Jamal surprises everyone by answering every question correctly, but he's accused of cheating and recounts his life story to the police

The film also won seven British Academy Film Awards and four Golden Globe Awards.
