After months of speculation about a third addition to the Orphan franchise, production house Dark Castle Entertainment has confirmed the development of the project, reports Variety. Isabelle Fuhrman is set to reprise her role as Esther in the film. Also returning is Orphan: First Kill helmer William Brent Bell and screenwriter David Coggeshall.

Alex Mace is also producing the film for Gnosis Films, alongside Dark Castle Entertainment. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is attached as an executive producer.

The horror franchise started with 2009's Orphan, which turned into a cult hit. The first film follows a mysterious nine-year-old girl with a sinister secret who infiltrates a grieving family and unleashes a reign of terror. The Jaume Collet-Serra directorial also stars Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard. Orphan: First Kill is a prequel that follows Fuhrman's character as she fakes her identity as a rich family's daughter and gets out of an Estonian mental health facility.
