Writer-director Francis Ford Coppola's passion project, titled Megalopolis, featuring in the Competition section at the Cannes Film Festival, will release in theatres worldwide in the Imax format. The CEO of Imax, Richard Gelfond said at Cannes, "One of the things that we pride ourselves on is being filmmaker-friendly. So we’ve committed to Francis to do a global Imax release." He also stated that a release would be announced once there is an official confirmation about the distributor for the film in the US and the timing of its release in the country. It has already been sold to more than one international territory.

The news comes hot on the heels of the teaser trailer for Megalopolis, also featuring dynamic scenes of protests in a utopian city. The film is reportedly a Roman epic that is set in a modern version of the US that Coppola imagined. It stars Adam Driver as an architect looking to rebuild New York City following a catastrophic event. The rest of the cast comprises Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Laurence Fishburne, Chloe Fineman, Grace VanderWaal, DB Sweeney, Dustin Hoffman, and James Remar.
