Shōgun is potentially set for another season, with its producer and star Hiroyuki Sanada signing an agreement with FX to reprise his role from the first season, reports Variety. Shōgun was conceived as a limited series upon its initial release on Disney+ Hotstar, but FX is reportedly planning to place it in the drama category in the race for the 2024 Emmy Awards.

If Shōgun 2 materialises, depending on many factors, Cosmo Jarvis is likely to play his sailor character again. Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks's original revolves around John Blackthorne (Jarvis), a British sailor who gets embroied in the ins and outs of feudal Japanese politics after he encounters a shipwreck situation. Sananda stars as Lord Yoshii Toranaga in the series, based on James Clavell's best-seller titled 'Shōgun'.
