Russell Crowe has signed on to filmmaker Derrick Borte's Bear Country, which is billed as an action picture. It reunites Crowe and his Unhinged director Borte. The film stars Crowe as Manco Kapak, an ageing yet formidable club owner. It follows Manco as he becomes the victim of a robbery, which creates a distance between him and his girlfriend and sets cartel bosses on his trail.

Borte and Daniel Forte wrote its script based on Thomas Perry's novel titled 'Strip'. Nickel City Pictures' Mark Fasano will produce the film with A Higher Standard's Jeffrey Greenstein, as well as Life & Soul Pictures' Mark Bower and Bruno Mustic. On the other hand, Latigo Films' Robert A Daly Jr and David Lipper will co-finance the film, alongside Gramercy Park Media.

The makers aim to start production on Bear County on the Gold Coast of Australia this October.

Crowe is on the sets of Nuremberg, and his upcoming films include Kraven the Hunter and The Exorcism.
