Earlier, we reported that actors Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes joined the cast of 28 Years Later, the sequel to the 2002 zombie hit 28 Days Later. The latest update is that actor Jack O'Connell, who is best known for films like Tulip Fever, Trial by Fire, and Ferrari has joined the film's cast.

The upcoming film, part of a planned trilogy, is directed by Danny Boyle and based on a script penned by Alex Garland. Further details about the plot are still to be disclosed. It is worth mentioning that the second film in the trilogy will be helmed by Nia DaCosta. As per reports, O'Connel will have a recurring role in the trilogy.

Although the plot of the upcoming film is under wraps, the original 28 Days Later in 2002 centered on a bicycle courier (played by Cillian Murphy) who wakes from a coma to discover the world had been overrun with zombies following a virus outbreak. The film was a massive box office success and led to a standalone 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later, on which Boyle and Garland served solely as executive producers.

Boyle and Garland also produce 28 Years Later, along with the original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice. The Oppenheimer actor is also returning as an executive producer.
