Film critic Justin Chang wins the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism

He is only one of four film critics to have won the recognition, including the late Roger Ebert, Stephen Hunter, and Wesley Morris

Justin Chang has won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism for his work for the Los Angeles Times. The Pulitzer adjudicators chose Chang for his "richly evocative and genre-spanning film criticism that reflects on the contemporary moviegoing experience." Chang now works for the New Yorker and earlier served as a film critic for Variety and the LA Times. He is only one of four film critics to have won the recognition, including the late Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times, Stephen Hunter of The Washington Post, and Wesley Morris of The Boston GlobeEbert was the first film critic to win the award, and Morris was the last.

Also nominated alongside Chang for the award were Vinson Cunningham of The New Yorker and Zadie Smith of The New York Review of Books.
