School of Rock stars Jack Black as Dewey Finn, an out-of-job musician who pretends to be a substitute teacher and forms a rock band with fourth-grade students. In a recent conversation with the UK-based publisher JOE, Black expressed his interest in a sequel to the 2003 film. He told JOE, “I wish there’d be a School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo," as he referred to the sequel to 1984's Breakin’.

School of Rock also spawned a Broadway musical adaptation in 2015, which premiered at the Winter Garden Theatre. It remains to be seen how the sequel would take shape, as the fourth-graders from the 2003 original are mainly in their thirties now. The film from 2003 was directed by Richard Linklater from a Mike White screenplay.
