Fresh from his Best Actor Oscar win, Cillian Murphy is all set to play his Peaky Blinders role in the standalone film that will go on floors in September this year. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight confirmed it in a conversation with Birmingham World. “He definitely is returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth,” Knight said. Murhphy's representatives, meanwhile, are yet to comment on the news.

Peaky Blinders revolves around the exploits of a family of gangsters in the early 20th century in England after World War I. The six-season series stars Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, the head honcho of the family who calls the shots. Murphy has expressed his interest in being part of the standalone Peaky Blinders film, provided he finds the right script for it, and Knight has also shared his keenness on pursuing the project.

Murphy's latest film is an Irish drama titled Small Things Like These, which premiered at the recent edition of the Berlin Film Festival.
